Upgrades and Renewal

Can I renew my license before it has expired?

Yes. This is the most convenient way to do it – before your license has expired.

Can I renew my license after it has expired?

Although not recommended, you will still have a grace period (3 months) after the expiration date to renew your license. During this grace period you won’t be able to get free updates or use PHP Tools for VS, unless you renew your license. After that grace period, you won’t be able to renew anymore, and you will have to purchase a new license.

Please note: our system works by always adding 12 months to the expiration date, not the renewal date.

For instance, if your expiration date was on Jan 17, 2015 you will have 3 extra months (grace period) to renew your license, that is until Apr 17, 2015 (see Situation A on the picture below). After the expiration date, you won’t be able to use PHP Tools for VS Code or receive updates for PHP Tools for VS until you renew your subscription. If you renew it on Apr 17, 2015- last possible day of renewal, the system will still give you 12 months starting on the expiration date. Your license will expire after 12 months of your last expiration date, on Jan 17, 2015, no matter when you renewed it.

During the grace period you won’t be able to use PHP Tools for VS Code or receive free updates for PHP Tools for Visual Studio until you renew your license; hence, we highly recommend that you renew your license before the expiration date (see Situation B in the picture below).

PHP Tools renewal

For how long is the renewal price valid?

The renewal price is valid for a year starting on your purchase date, but, as a courtesy, we have extended this renewal price for all our customers for three more months (grace period). That means that after your expiration date, you will have 3 extra months to renew your license. After that period, you will have to buy a new license.

For instance, if a customer purchased on August 10, 2010, the expiration date will be August 10, 2011, and they can renew their license until November 10, 2011. After these three months, they will have to purchase a new license.

Note 1: You won’t be able to use PHP Tools for VS Code or receive updates for PHP Tools for Visual Studio during this grace period until you renew your license.

Note 2: If the license is renewed during this 3-month grace period, it will still be renewed for 12 months starting on the purchase date, and not on the renewal date.

Tip! You can activate the auto-renewal button to avoid this.

A quick explanation for renewals on our system:

Our system works by adding 12 months to the purchase date, not the renewal date. For instance, if a customer purchased on October 10, 2010, the expiration date will be October 10, 2011.

After the expiration date, the customer will have a grace period of 3 extra months to renew their license. If you purchased on Oct 10, 2010, you will have until Jan 10, 2011 to renew your license.

Please note: If the license is renewed during this grace period, it will still be renewed for 12 months starting on the purchase date, and not on the renewal date.

Tip! You can activate the auto-renewal button to avoid this.

How do I know if my license is about to expire?

You will get email notifications when your expiration date is close. You can also sign in with your social account at our website and see all your licenses and their status.

You can also activate the auto-renewal button and forget about expiration dates.

What is the Maintenance and Support subscription?

The Maintenance and Support subscription entitles you to all major and minor updates for a period of one year from the purchase date. After this period, you may continue to use PHP Tools for Visual Studio (PHP Tools for VS Code doesn’t apply, see License overview), but are no longer entitled to free updates or newer versions. Renewing your subscription will allow you to continuously install and use the latest versions of the products as they are released.

Note: Renewals add one year starting from the expiration date of the previous Maintenance and Support Subscription, not from the renewal date.

Do I need to renew my subscription every year?

It is highly recommended to renew your Maintenance and Support Subscription every year in order to get all fixes and updates and use the latest versions as they are released, and support for new Visual Studio releases.

Do I have to buy a new license if I upgrade form one IDE to another?

No, you don´t need to buy a new license if you upgraded your IDE. However, your license has to support that particular IDE. You will only need a license for the PHP Tools version that supports that particular IDE.

Just over a year ago, I bought a PHP Tools for Visual Studio license that it is now expired. I didn’t want to renew it but now I have found that it no longer works. If this is a permanent license, how do I make it work again?

The license you purchased is indeed permanent for the version you purchased, older versions or any other version released during your active subscription. You will be able to use it for as long as you wish. The problem has to do with Visual Studio, which probably tried to update to a newer version that was released after your maintenance subscription expired. Hence, to solve the problem and use your PHP Tools as before, you just have to download a previous version released before the date your maintenance subscription expired.
