Our Academic Licenses allow you to use both PHP Tools for Visual Studio and PHP Tools for VS Code.
Any student that would like to acquire a PHP Tools for Visual Studio Academic License must:
- be enrolled in a degree or diploma-granting course of study at an accredited college, university, or high school; and also
- be under 26 years old

Are licenses for students and teachers 100% free?
Yes, we offer 100% free Academic and Classroom licenses for teachers and students, respectively. Upon acceptance of their application, students and faculty members will receive full access to all our products for a year. These licenses are restricted to non-commercial purposes only. Please, make sure you read our License Agreement.
What’s an Academic License?
An Academic License is the option for students who will use PHP Tools for educational purposes or academic research. These licenses cannot be used for any type of commercial purposes. Please, make sure you read our License Agreement.
What’s a Classroom License?
A Classroom License is the option for faculty members who will use PHP Tools for educational purposes in a classroom setting. These licenses cannot be used for any type of commercial purposes. In order to get the Classroom License, faculty members must accept our License Agreement and give information about the institution.
What’s the difference between an Academic and a Classroom License?
The Academic License is an individual license only for students for learning, while Classroom licenses are given to faculty members for teaching in a classroom setting. These licenses cannot be used for any type of commercial purposes.
What’s the difference between a Commercial license and a Classroom license?
Our Classroom Licenses don’t differ from our paid Commercial Licenses in the technical sense. You’ll have access to the full product with all features and functions. The only restriction is the purpose of the license. The Classroom License is intended only for educational purposes, while the Commercial License can be used for commercial purposes.
In order to get the Classroom License, faculty members must accept our License Agreement and give information about the institution.
How can I start using your products?
Just send an email to email@example.com with an attached proof that you’re a student. Then, when you’re approved, you will be able to get an Academic License at no cost. Make sure to read the License Agreement carefully.
What versions of the products do I get?
You’ll get all the latest versions of PHP Tools for Visual Studio and also PHP Tools for VS Code during your license validity period, which is one year.
Is this free Academic License perpetual?
No, the Academic License is valid for one year. Perpetual licenses are not provided. After this period, you will need to get a new activation key for the following year, or purchase a license if you’re no longer a student.
How can I renew my free Academic License for another year?
If you’re still a student, you’ll be able to get a new activation key for another year. You can do it directly from your Devsense’ account.
Can I use my license on computers in classes?
If you want to use PHP Tools in a classroom, we offer special Classroom Licenses. Please, encourage your teacher to take a look at our special offers or contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
We are an educational institution. Are Academic Licenses the right option for us?
Academic Licenses are just for students. Our Classroom License allows faculty members to use our products for free in classrooms, for teaching purposes. Please, contact us at email@example.com.
Are there any discounts for students after graduation?
Yes, students that finish their course of study and are holders of a PHP Tools Academic License are eligible for getting a 25% discount on their purchase of any of our products.
I’m a student but I also work part-time. Can I use my free Academic License for my work projects?
No, our Academic Licenses are exclusively for non-commercial purposes only. You have the option of purchasing a personal license or you may ask your employer to purchase a commercial license for work-related projects.
I’m neither a student nor a teacher, but I work at an educational institution. I would like to acquire a PHP Tools license for development of internal applications. Are Academic/Classroom licenses the right option for me?
No, our free Academic and Classroom licenses are exclusively for educational and non-commercial purposes. For accredited universities, colleges, or high schools, we offer 25% discount in our products for development of their internal applications.
